Ugly Tuna Sushi

Friday afternoon was their first official night of being open (soft opening) and we were blown away. The restaurant has a new and sleek appearance to it and it was really clean. We decided to sit at the bar as we really enjoy conversating with the sushi chefs. We ordered four specialty rolls, miso soup, and two bottles of sake. The staff quickly got to work and a few minutes later we had our first roll. Having lived in Hawaii for many years, I must say that this sushi is just as fresh, if not more fresh!!! The salmon was by far the freshest salmon that I've ever tasted. Each roll was unique and provided a carefully matched symphony of flavors. The staff was friendly and impressed us both for being their first day open. Service was friendly and very quick. Without a doubt, we will be back sooner than later. This sushi spot is great for families or a quiet date night with that special someone. Thank you for the awesome service, we look forward to our next visit.

Got happy hour (430 pm to close) rolls, the las Las Vegas and 702 LV roll, sashimi (mouthwatering!), some sake, beer, and a mojito, and a bento box for me and my bf. Everything was great and the staff is so nice! Highly recommend this place!

Amazing food. This is by far the best sushi we've had since we moved to AZ. I'm an avid sushi lover and this by far exceeded my expectations. My husband doesn't like miso soup but he actually likes it here and so does our 4 year old daughter, she had 3 bowls. The kids meal looks delightful in the bento box with the lid. We will definitely be returning often.

Sashimi literally melts in your mouth like butter. Fresh fish, ample portions, attentive staff - what more could you ask? Daniel knows what he is doing, and his staff are learning from the master. Hamachi Kama stellar also.

After spending three years living in Japan, you really wish you could find authentic yakisoba like that here in the states. Thankfully, Ugly Tuna Sushi really hit the mark!! The food was amazing, the restaurant was clean, the service was really good and the sushi chefs were very generous in sending courtesy samples around. A great experience and we will definitely be back!

This is my favorite sushi place. It is sooo good! The customer service is also great! A mistake was made once and they immediately fixed it and apologized.

Good food. I usually don’t care about quality of service, but it was not packed, and the servers acted very overwhelmed and it took me forever to get the check when I had somewhere to be.

Great find in Sun City/Peoria area. Very fresh fish and great presentation. The wait staff was good as well. It may be expensive but well worth it.

Sushi was great tonight! The manager Daniel helped us pick out a couple rolls and Cassidy the server was very nice and attentive. Will come back again.

Food was great, service was great! First time to Ugly Tuna and we loved it. We ordered a Rainbow roll and a Sal-Una roll, and both were very fresh and delicious! We also received a sampling of albacore tuna tartare and that too was so good! Can't wait to try happy hour. We'll definitely be back!

Great food and friendly staff. You can tell the chef takes a lot of pride in his work and pays close attention to detail. Even COVID takeout is beautiful.

My third time here already, loved everything about this restaurant!! Very clean, high-end decors inside, fast and nice customers service, fantastic food qualities!!Never found this quality of the food in this area. So happy to have them in our neighborhood!

First time at this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. You can tell that the fish is fresh and the quality has not been compromised. We tried the special- Hokkaido Scallop, which was AMAZING! We have never tried anything like it. Another favorite was the Uni & the Tuna Tataki Roll. Our kids loved their kid’s meal bento box! Came in a cute box with a cover. Service was amazing, food was even better, the ambiance was very hip & we will definitely be back.

Food was excellent but service was just alright. They were pretty busy and it seemed like people were getting sat down before us even though we had waited longer. Server was friendly and nice

Great food. Great service. My wife and I have been trying to come in and give Ugly Tuna a try for lunch. But, we normally eat a late lunch around the hours they close at. So, beware. They are closed between the time of 2:30-4:30pm. This time, we were able to get In to try them out. Their Caterpillar roll looked so beautiful!

Eating Vegan currently and I had the vegetable roll and cuddling roll. Very delicious and fresh tasting. My family has other tools and they said they were all very good and high quality fish.

AMAZING new local sushi spot with the most authentic tasting Japanese sushi. Pair with an adult beverage to make it ther perfect meal. Sitting at the sushi bar is a MUST!

Been here 3 times. We’ve gotten some specialty rolls, the unagi bowl and the poke salad as well as some drinks. The food is so good and everything tastes so fresh. The staff is really sweet too. Try this place out!!

Best place to get your sushi in. Surprise hands down!!! Thank God Daniel opened Ugly Tuna Sushi, we were going crazy with the limited options we had. They serve big fresh rolls, bery friendly staff. Jacob and Musashi are great and will take care of you. This place puts the others to shame with their tiny rolls and warm fish. Try it you will not be disappointed, they do get busy so be a bit patient.

Hands down best sushi in Surprise and surrounding areas. I would put it up against any sushi I have had on the west coast. The quality seems out of place but very welcomed. Clean, friendly staff and great banter between sushi staff and customers. Happy hour prices are fantastic, regular prices are on par with most sushi joints. Over two visits our group has ordered a full range of items. All have incredible presentation and melt in your mouth. Their seaweed does not get caught in your teeth or throat it melts. I asked about it, they smiled and said very simply, "quality". Rolls, sashimi, nigiri, apps all are top shelf. Beer and sake are ice cold and nice and warm. I simply cannot recommend them enough. The gyoza are ridiculous! Going forward this will be our only sushi option for the westside.

The sushi is fresh and delicious. The servers are very helpful and quick to serve you. The large selection of sushi roll choices are big enough to meet everyones taste buds. I enjoyed my visit here and I know i will be back for more.

We came here with a group of friends and one of them ended up not liking their meal. She ordered out of her comfort zone and ended up not liking it. The waitress immediately asked what else she would like, took the other order off of the bill, and the chef even came out and apologized for the previous meal, which of course, wasn't his fault at all. Overall, a great experience here. (Order the bento box)

One of the few sushi places in Surprise. It has an authentic feel. Fish was fresh but not firm fresh. This is Arizona so I don't expect super fresh fish. For Surprise very good, but not as good as it could be.

The waiters/waitresses are still learning the ropes, so be patient. The food was Excellent. Mussels, Gyoza, Dynamite roll all great. Yellow tail collar was phenomenal...Highly recommend.

Great fresh tasting sushi served in large portions! Many different types of roll items and several items available for your friends who aren't sure about eating raw seafood. I had the Tsunami Roll which sports the "Dynamite Sauce" with spicy tuna and spicy salmon. Love the spice, though it was a good thing I ordered the raw scallop special to give myself a few bites of relief!

Although the sushi was good my husband ordered chicken teriyaki and an appetizer. My sushi came out and I had completely finished my meal before the teriyaki chicken came out. The chicken was cold like just came out of the refrigerator and we still had not received the appetizer. We had them take it off the bill and left. Very poor service

Staff was friendly. Food delicious. The soft drinks are unlimited. My girlfriend doesn't handle spicy food very well and we got a sample of spicy mayo so she could gauge it. They were accommodating to her dietary requirements.

Just had an amazing dinner! Although this place has only been open less than a week, the service was very professional and the food was outstanding! We tried 4 different roles and all were excellent! We'll be back!

The quantity of sushi cant be beat in the area. The quality is also very good. The wait for the food to be delivered was ridicules. 40min plus.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Ugly Tuna Sushi (November 1st their first week open). The food was spectacular the restaurant is beautiful. We cannot wait to get back to enjoy more sushi!

Was great experience. Rolls are expertly created and bento boxes are filling. Prices are reasonable for portions. Overall a great experience.

New restaurant in surprise, clean, friendly staff and quick. Came in for lunch and had a few rolls. Everything tasted fresh, I mean really fresh. You can tell when they use quality fish and know what they are doing. This place is our new sushi spot in surprise. Don't settle for second rate food. We will be back soon.

Probably the best sushi my wife and I have had in a while. We had sushimi, 5 different rolls, and miso soup. Restaurant is a modern deco, clean, wide open...only negative I have was the service was a tad slow (took 20 mins to get the sushimi and rolls)...but we will certainly go back. The food and atmosphere was phee-nom. Treat yourself and go here!

Tried to get in last week and was packed and was told they were "understaffed".... decided to give them another shot last night and not the least bit impressed... although the food came very fast, it was not hot or fresh...We got a bento box and some sushi rolls. Also should have a better explination of rolls on the happy hour menu. Ordered a "tempura roll" thinking it had a shrimp tempura inside and come to find out the roll was deep fried which made the crab warm.. that taste was not good.

Food was mostly great. Fresh Wasabi a must. Service great.

We dropped in on a Friday afternoon, about 1:30 - it was nice a quiet, we sat at the Sushi Bar, and when we left, about an hour later, the place was filling up. GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD! We loved it, we'll go back, soon!

Had lunch to try it out. My hubby who loves sushi loved it!! I had a Katsu chicken bento box, it was also yummy and had more sushi for my hubby to enjoy. My son like his kids meal with teriyaki chicken...he also liked my chicken katsu and kept taking some of mine also😉. The kids meals came in a cute container. The restaurant was sleek and clean. The staff were friendly!

We are super picky about sushi restaurants but this place was delicious. We will definitely come back. Recommend ordering the Sweet Psycho roll. So good... and happy hour prices are decent as well.

Service was really slow for a before dinner rush, waited 30 mins for 2 small orders. Drinks had ice but quickly melted, waitress seemed as if she really didn’t want to be there, chef kept mean mugging me as I ate. Wife agreed over priced to feel unwanted.No eating here again gonna stick with Sakura
